About Sabela Safaris
Sabela Game Reserve is a 3400 ha game reserve situated in the Malaria free Eastern Cape region of South Africa. The name Sabela means "to find sanctuary" in Xhosa. This beautiful piece of nature is indeed a sanctuary, with numerous bird species such as the African Fish Eagle, Crowned Eagle and the endangered Martial Eagle. As you enter the reserve the winding gravel road takes you past ancient Yellowwood trees with Old Man's beard hanging in abundance from the branches.
For the adventurous, a short hike through dense bush and clambering over rocky cliffs will take you to a cave with Bushmen rock paintings overlooking a deep ravine. The reserve consists of bushveld thicket, a haven for Bushbuck and Kudu, and dense Spekboom veld (a succulent bush which is vital in the arid Karoo regions). The grassland flats are home to numerous species of plains game, ground birds and breeding pairs of Blue Cranes. The nearest town, Grahamstown, is only a 40 km drive and is steeped in Settler history and architecture. The city of Port Elizabeth is less than a 2 hour drive from the reserve and offers fantastic shopping, a casino, restaurants and beaches.
Sabela Game Reserve is a family run farm and safari adventure destination. Your hosts, Chris and Linda Watson and their lovely daughter Tahlyn, will ensure your stay is memorable. All meals are personally prepared by chef Helene de Boer who is a master at preparing top class cuisine on the open fire.
Let us make your African dream come true.
